Superman Movie 2025 Film Review

Kindness is the new Punk Rock

Film Rating: 5/5 Stars

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Jame’s Gunn’s adaption of Superman is breaking box office records with over 300+ million at the box office! The new DC film featuring David Corenswet as the new Superman of the DC Universe was phenomenal! It was hopeful, cinematic and a healthy portrayal of masculinity.

I had the privilege of watching the film in IMax and it’s definitely meant for that cinema format! The cinematography alone deserved an award. It was vibrant, scenic, and razor sharp detailing of the characters. The special effects in this DC movie are impressive. It rivals Marvel movies with its excellent color grading, black holes and the powers of the superheroes.

The film represented Hope it in a time when we need it most. The audience was swept away by Superman and his dog just trying to make the world a better place.

David Corenswet as Superman

Nicholas Hoult’s portrayal of Lex Luthor has to be one of the most convincing villain storylines ever. You feel the envy and jealousy Luthor has towards Superman. Luthor was a resilient villain who wouldn’t stop at anything to try and defeat Superman throughout the entire film. This storyline alone made the movie very action-packed. It featured a lot of nuanced complexity. The movie also addressed the current immigration issues within its themes, which did make me emotional.

But the character of Lois Lane was a “Hot Take”. She was played by Rachel Brosnahan. She definitely wasn’t a damsel in distress. She wasn’t hopelessly in love with Superman like Amy Adams in Man of Steel. It seemed they attempted a feminist approach to the character which would’ve been iconic. However, it came off as a portrayal of a bitter girl closed off to love. In the middle of the film, when she saves Superman she says, “I was thinking of breaking up with him actually”. Excuse me?? I’ll happily date Superman then Miss Lane! In summary, I didn’t care for that story arc. I have been told though, that it was to represent a person having a difficult time letting love in.

David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, and Krypto the Dog are what make this film a masterpiece. Also, seeing the early stages of the Justice League was a nice addition to the film.

This Superman wasn’t dark and rugged. It was about empathy and humanity. If you’re a critical thinker, carry your heart on your sleeve, and love comic book accurate character’s then you’ll love this adaption of Superman. James Gunn deserves to direct the rest of the DC Universe.
