3 Things I’d Love to See in the Practical Magic Sequel.

It’s official, we’re getting our Midnight Margarita Girls Back!

Practical Magic 2 is in production and set to release in September 2026. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidnman will be reprising their roles as the beloved witch sisters Sally and Gilly Owens.

I’ve always been into witchy movies! Because I’m connected to my feminine energy, the elements, and love the familial bonds that are in witch films. With Charmed, Witches of East End, and Practical Magic: they’ve all held a special place in my heart. They each have their own magical lessons about life, love, and family.

In the Practical Magic Sequel (Practical Magic 2) , I would like to see

1. Sally Becoming the Next Matriarch Witch

In the first movie, Sally Owens always wanted to live a normal life. She suppressed her magic and neglected learning about her craft. It hasn’t been confirmed yet if Dianne Wiest or Stockard Channing will be also returning back as Aunt Jet and Aunt Frances. Of course we’d all love to see the Aunts! But It’s likely that instead Sally will become the next leading Matriarch of the Owen’s family.

As we see in the first film, Sally has a gift for creating fire naturally. She also works with flowers and the earth to send messages. It would be ideal for Sally to finally embrace being a witch and lean into her gifts of elemental magic. Maybe we can see the limits of her fire magic in the sequel? She’s always been connected to nature even when she launched her apothecary and bath works shop.

2. Sally Training Antonia, Kylie & Maybe Gilly Magic

Sally was very against her daughters Antonia and Kylie learning anything about magic and witchcraft. She knew there was too many risks and consequences. She didn’t want her daughter’s involved with any of that at such a young age. However, maybe now that they’re older Sally trains them in the craft. It’s already been trending news that Joey King has been cast to play one of Sally’s daughters. It’s likely to be Antonia because of the resemblance of the original actor Alexandra Artrip

When it comes to Gillian (Gilly) Owens, she struggled performing magic growing up. It didn’t come naturally to her compared to Sally. Yet some theorize that Gilly has the power of allure: being capable of drawing people in from her natural aura. This can be supported since Gillian dates many guys in the film and has multiple divorces in the book. What if all the Owen’s women need to embrace their own magic to defeat the next villain of the the story?

3. A New Villain

Jimmy Angelov was the original antagonist and brought a villainous abusive boyfriend energy to the story. But since he’s already been defeated a couple of times who or what will be the primary challenge in the sequel? It’s rumored that maybe one of the daughters struggles with black magic and its up to the family to save her.

I’m super excited for Practical Magic 2. I really hope they still keep it a homey and vintage aesthetic rather than trying to modernize it with tech savvy magic or something!
